There are 4 stages in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification (AFC):12 teams with lowest ranking in Asia will play in the qualifying. 6 winning teams and top 34 teams will go to the next stage.40 teams will be divided into 5 groups. The 1st place (total 8 teams) in each group and the 2nd place (just 4 teams with higher points) will go to the strong 12. These 12 teams can also qualify for the 2023 AFC Asian Cup.12 teams will be divided into 2 groups. The top 2 places (total 4 teams) in each group will qualify for the World Cup directly.The winning team between the two 3rd places will play against the 4 place of FIFA World Cup qualification (CONCACAF) to fight for the qualification.
